Bulldogs for the Church

The Dominican Order has long been nicknamed Domini canes — the Hounds of the Lord. It is a play on words, but it captures a truth: Dominicans are called to guard the flock, chase off the wolves, and bark when danger approaches.

St. Dominic earned this name not by brute force but by unshakable fidelity to Christ and tireless preaching of the truth. When heresy threatened to poison souls, he did not stay silent. He prayed, studied, preached, and lived so that error would have nowhere to hide.

In every age, the Church needs her bulldogs — men who know their faith, love the Bride of Christ, and will not compromise with falsehood. The bite of a Dominican is not anger or cruelty; it is the sharp edge of truth spoken with clarity and love.

As Viri Mariae, we too are called to stand guard. To keep watch in prayer. To confront lies with truth. To defend the purity of the Church with courage and conviction. In an age that prizes comfort over conviction, we must be willing to bark. Let us be hounds of the Lord — loyal to Christ, faithful to His Mother, relentless in guarding the faith handed down to us.
